In order to replace the battery on you Mazda Key you first need to disassemble it. This takes a bit more force than most people are willing to apply. Below are the photos on how to replace both the battery and the metal keychain ring.
- Using both hands grip the key tightly and pull as hard as you can.
- If you cant get a good enough grip, try using pliers on the key side.
- They key should now look like this. Set aside the metal key side and pick up the electronics side.
- Now take the half with the electronics and face it on end. Directly in the center there is a place for a flat head screwdriver. Put it in the slot and rotate. Do NOT do this in the two side slots, you can see where I made that mistake for you ;)
- You should now have this.
- Here is a closeup of the metal bracket and the battery holder. The battery should pop out with thumbnail or small screwdriver.
- The battery closeup and the board. The battery is a CR1620 3V coin cell. Available for pennies online for a few dollars at a drugstore.
